Veterinary surgeons experience higher rates of mental distress when compared to the general population[1] and working in vet practice poses specific challenges for all team members. Unfortunately, feelings of shame, guilt and failure are often a barrier to seeking help. VetPsyche provides compassionate and confidential counselling to all members of the veterinary community.
About Me
Since graduating from Bristol University in 2000 I have worked as a small animal vet and continue to work part time in Canterbury, Kent. My interest in mental health was sparked when I attended a wellbeing CPD stream during a conference in 2017 and I felt inspired to become a Vetlife volunteer.
The privilege of being able to support members of the veterinary profession through Vetlife is something I continue to be hugely grateful for.
I have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the nuanced challenges of veterinary practice and understand the current difficulties facing the profession.
I offer face-to-face counselling locally and online counselling to all practice team members. I have particular interest in vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout. As a ‘vet mum’ I also understand the difficulty of juggling work and family life and the pressure that can create. I know how difficult it can feel to put our trust in another and ask for support.
